My primary responsibility as an educator is to facilitate a safe learning environment that encourages students to try their best and enjoy themselves; this is possible through mutual respect, support, honesty, and kindness. In my class, students are encouraged to ask questions, share their opinions, and make mistakes- we are always learning. I will treat your child with respect and do everything in my power to reach them and teach them over our year-long journey.
A safe environment is the focal point of my classroom management approach. This means my students and I will be responsible for our actions and for helping one another make responsible and safe decisions. Put-downs are prohibited; we will discuss and resolve any situations of this nature as a class when they occur throughout the year. Every child will work to become inclusive, supportive, and friendly to their peers. Our classroom is a safe space for students to speak up, say “stop,” and talk out any issues; as students learn content they simultaneously are learning how to become well-rounded human beings. Conflict resolution is a critical lifelong skill!
I believe that each child can learn and succeed. I also believe that students learn best when they engage in work that is purposeful and meaningful to them. That is why I tailor lessons to fit all types of learners, including visual and hands-on methods of teaching, in order for each student to access the content and remember it. One major way I plan on accessing each child is by incorporating the newest available resources and technology into our lessons; in our technological world I feel including different means of teaching and learning is best to guide children to become prepared, innovative, and forward-thinking adults. Lastly, I will always be available and willing to help students with anything they need. I am a resource to speak to for any educational and behavioral needs or concerns and am committed to working with each unique child to identify, discuss, and undertake any issue that comes up. I will always go above and beyond for my students.
Our layout is ideal for partner work, group work and full-class participation. With each table fanned out I am able to be mobile and interactive with the class while being able to stand in front and be visible by each student.
